Last Thursday we held the official 2019 Spelling Bee Finals! It was a tense afternoon as the finalists from each class went head-to-head with the other finalist in their year group. Mrs Clarkson had heard that the teachers had a tough job thinking of words that would get some of the children out in the initial rounds. This is a good sign that the official word lists had been learnt thoroughly however it did mean that she had to spend her morning trawling the dictionary for suitably challenging words. Some of the finals were over after the first word, whilst others went on for some time. The school would like to congratulate the following finalists-
Year 1 - 1st place Jasmiina, 2nd place Vihan and Eva
Year 2 - 1st place Keira, 2nd place Sammie
Year 3 - 1st place Jennifer, 2nd place Izzy (special mention to Sienna who had to go home poorly before the final)
Year 4 - 1st place Lucas D, 2nd place Lucas O
Year 5 - 1st place Alparslan, 2nd place Leah
Year 6 - 1st place Niall, 2nd place Louisa
It takes a lot of courage, determination and resilience to compete in a Spelling Bee final so a big well done to these pupils! We could also like to congratulate all of those who tried hard to learn their spellings at home; your commitment to improving your spelling ability is commendable.
