Science Explorers club

Science Explorers were investigating what happens when we mix oil and liquid by making 'fireworks in a jar'. The explorers added food colouring drops to a layer of oil floating on top of water and then watched them 'explode'!

The explorers learnt that liquids can have different weights or densities because of their structure. Water is heavier than oil so it sinks because it is made up of a different amount of molecules.

Food colouring dissolves in water but not in oil. This is how the drops and oil remain separated in the container.
