Year 5 - Planetarium

This morning (Monday), we visited the planetarium in our school hall. It was a big, dark dome of a tent with a projector inside which could show us into deep space. As the stars spun around our heads, it made us feel a little sick! We explored the constellations and how different societies have drawn them over time. We learnt that there are billions and billions of other galaxies in the Universe and that the sun isn't made of fire but is a continuous nuclear reaction turning hydrogen into helium gas. We also witnessed how the length of time the sun stays in the sky changes throughout the seasons, and that it always rises in the east and sets in the west.
