Year 5 visit The Living Rainforest
Year 5 had a fantastic day out on Wednesday visiting The Living Rainforest. We have been learning lots in class about different animals and plants that live in the rainforest, and how they have adapted to survive there. It was wonderful to bring our learning to life by being able to see these creatures in a rainforest-like environment with our very eyes!
Highlights of the day included sketching beautiful butterflies, staring at the sleeping sloth above us and watching the stingray show off her unique patterns through the glass! Thank you to all that came along with us for making the day such a success.

Skype a Scientist!
This afternoon Year 6 had an opportunity to see how all they have learned about Evolution and Inheritance is used in the real world, by speaking to Amy Parachnowitsch, a Professor in Sweden.
Amy studies the ways in which plants have evolved to be more appealing to pollinators (particularly looking at how they use scent) and has been studying this for the last 15 years! Year 6 had the opportunity to ask lots of questions about the area of Science she studies, how her research can be applied and even how she became a Scientist in the first place.
Olivia S liked that Amy told us "you don't have to be a genius to be a Scientist"; Lucas said "I liked how it fascinating and interesting; we got a live chat about anything we wanted with Science"; Paige said "I liked hearing about it from the perspective of someone who actually does it!"
It was great to be able to use technology to have a visitor from so far away in the classroom and we're looking forward to having lots more 'Skype a Scientist' sessions in the future!
Edina Bulb Project 2017 launched by Year 3
Today we planted bulbs for a scientific experiment . We are
going to observe our pots every day. We will record what rain has fallen, what
the temperature is, if bugs have eaten our plants and how tall they have grown.
We will also let Edina Trust know when each one flowers!
All our pots are next to the fence near the pond. You are
welcome to check how they are doing. If you would like to track us and the
other 167 schools taking part, you can look up the project at www.
Ollie said, “It was really fun. I loved putting the bulbs in and I think I’ll
love seeing them grow too.”
“A lot of people got a little bit messy, but we
had a lot of fun.” said Kamdilichi.
Thank you to our amazing helpers from Gardening club –
Emilia, Olivia, Sophie, Amelia and Katie.
