Tasty learning

This is what Maia told me about work that the year 4 children are doing at the moment:

“We were finding out about what it felt like to be a poor Tudor. Miss Grimes told us that a poor Tudor’s meal was healthier than a rich Tudor’s meal because rich Tudors ate too much. I found out that Henry VIII ate five meals a day.

We made some bread and everyone got a turn. We made the dough into a ball shape and made a cross with a knife and then put them in the oven. In the afternoon we made some potage. Potage is made with cabbage, leeks, swede, carrots, onion and water. They didn’t use salt because it was too expensive. I think it tasted lovely but most people didn’t like it”
