Moon Buggy Day at St Birinus

The winners of the moon buggy races at Ladygrove went through to the special Moon Buggy day at St Birinus. Armed with the buggies (and a bag of spares) we headed for the gym. The activities the children took part in included some space-themed art – which involved using acrylic paints on acetate – some people (Rob and Rory) seemed to spend more time wiping paint off their arms than getting it on the acetate! It was quite a tricky job, but there were some great efforts. Making and decorating planet biscuits was another activity the children enjoyed, although the phrase “less is more” clearly needed greater explanation to the boys, whereas the girls created works of art in tasteful plant-style designs. In the penultimate sessions the children were asked to make a moving alien spacecraft (like a hovercraft). The children wired their circuits, glued their skirts onto their craft and all of them managed to make them move successfully. Of course they also took part in racing their moon-buggies. Some (Rob, Sam, Harry and Jack) weren't as great as they had been at school, and spent some time at the Galaxy Garage being “looked at” by the DT specialists. Holly, Megan, Izzy and Molly's buggy went like a rocket along the speed track and easily beat all the others, so they won the category and got a bag of space-dust for their efforts.

All the children enjoyed the day, it was nice to bring back a winner too!
