A team of Yr 5 and Yr 6 pupils went to South Moreton yesterday
afternoon and played in the Garrick Cup semi final. We met Hagbourne, our
friendly rivals, in this match and what a game it was! Ladygrove Park played
keenly and enthusicatically. Tom Williams scored a brilliant goal and after the
first half we were 1 – 0 up. The second half was just as tight but 2 goals from
Katherine Burns meant the game ended 3-0 to us and our place in the final was
secure.
In the final we played against a very strong team from Fir
Tree School. It was a very tough
game – the marking from both sides was excellent; the passing was accurate and the
defence brilliant. 2 fabulous goals
from Kate Millar and Jon Collins were scored during the first half. Fir Tree
scored a great goal too leaving the score 2-1 to us after the first half. The second half was even tighter than the
first; both teams were marking and passing fantastically. In the final minute
Benji became injured but was incredibly brave and decided to carry on the match.
What a decision! He went on to score a
cracking goal shortly followed by another from Lucy Grain! What a game! The
final whistle blew! 4-1 to Ladygrove Park!
Congratulations to all members
of the team, who were a pleasure to be with and were a great credit to
themselves and the school. A big thank you also to the parents who helped with
transport and came along to support.
