Maths Event - Problems at the Zoo

Last Thursday and Friday we organised a fantastic maths event across the school. The theme was linked to a  visit to school from Gerald the Giraffe (who we were meant to be looking after for a week)

Children in Years 4 - 6 were given the task of becoming maths teachers to the younger children in school. They worked really hard to organise different practical maths activities and then taught them to the younger children. The activities included:

  • Weighing and measuring food and drink for Gerald
  • Measuring out his pen
  • Counting spots on Gerald
  • Identifying different shapes (of spots)
  • Buying food and toys for Gerald

The younger children absolutely loved the idea of a giraffe coming to stay and enjoyed every maths activity as you can see from these photos of Year 4 teaching children in our Foundation stage.
