What a challenge!

Year 4 Math Challenge!

This afternoon four of our fantastic year 4 mathematicians went to a Math Challenge event held at Summer Fields school in Oxford.

Team Nonagon! 

Team Octagon!

They did lots of different activities including: 

Dicey dicey - where they had to total the amounts given with only seconds to answer them.

 

What is next... Sequences

These got trickier as they went through. Some included fractions and letters! 

Make 24 - Everyone was given four numbers and they had to make 24 using any of the four operations. Everyone found this one a challenge as you had to use all the numbers! 

Fruit and Vegetable Alphabet - this was where they were given a shopping list and had to work out the totals of each item from what each of the letters represented.

Domino Jigsaw - 

Everyone had to match the dominoes onto the domino mat. All the dominoes had to be used. This one was a great challenge! 

Tangram Shapes - 

For this challenge the children had to make give. shapes using a certain amount of pieces.

And the answer is...

Finally the afternoon ended in a math quiz! 

We did really well! The Octagons came 9th and the Nonagons came 6th out of 26 schools!!! The children were rewarded with a well earned goodie bag!
