Class 10 and 11 took a trip around the world today and visited lots of different countries!
They made sure they had their ticket and passport before they left Didcot!
Here are the countries that Class 10 visited:
Jolly Journeys went to China first. They made some fish out of paper plates and decorated them with shiny foil. They learnt about how Koi were important in certain places in China. Next they visited Nepal where there were a variety of activities including colouring Nepal's national symbol, the Rhododendron. The third country they visited was Thailand, where they learnt about the elephants that lived there. They even learnt how to greet a white elephant! They finally visited Peru and made masks that were inspired by the Incas.
Glorious Gaddings also visited China first. They learnt how to use chopsticks and tried to pick up cotton wool, marshmallows, skitles and blueberries. They then made Chinese lanterns to symbolise Chinese New Year. After that they traveled to India. They looked at Hindu drawings and patterns. In a Hindu pattern there are usually two lines of symmetry however there has to be at least one line of symmetry. They also completed a word search. They visited Nepal next and learnt about the legend of the Yeti and the highest mountain, Mount Everest. Finally they visited Spain and learnt about Picasso Whilst in Spain they created their own Picasso inspired portraits.
Happy Holidays visited Germany first and made some masks. This is because instead of Pancake Day in Germany they have a festival and dress up. They then traveled to Thailand and learnt about the white elephants, which are very rare and if found need to be brought to the King! After that they went to India and learnt about the Diwali festival, which is important in that country. Finally they visited Greece where they tried Greek food and all of them agreed that their favourite thing to try was the pita bread. Also while visiting that country they made olive leaf crowns because of the Ancient Olympics.
Delightful Days hopped over to Spain first. They completed artwork based on the artist Picasso. They then visited China where they made Chinese lanterns. Also in China they were challenged at using chopsticks to eat various foods. Next they went to Greece and had a Greek feast of different foods. All of the children liked the different foods they tried. They then made winning Olympic crowns out of card and did some counting in Greek. Thailand was the last country they visited. They learnt how to say hello and how to count to 10. Whilst in Thailand they decorated elephants and learnt about the rare white elephants! Here is a fun fact they learnt; Thailand is located in South East Asia.
Exotic Excursions visited Guadeloupe first, which is a Caribbean island. They found out that the country was the shape of a butterfly. They also learnt that they grow sugar and bananas there. The language they speak in this country is French. Next they went to Peru, where they made masks to worship the Gods. After that they visited China and learnt about the fish, Koi. Finally they went to Nepal where they learnt about the legend of the Yeti and their national flag. Whilst in this country they made their own Yetis and saw the traditional clothing that people in Nepal wear.
Lovely Locations went to Peru first and they made masks. They learnt that the masks were used to show respect to the Sun God whilst farming. The next stop was Germany, where they learnt German numbers. They also learnt about the different 'Karnevals' that occur. They made masks that could be found at these 'Karnevels'. They then visited Spain and learnt about Picasso and how that artist was associated with Cubism. They made their own portraits by using collage. They finally visited China where they made Chinese lanterns for Chinese New Year. Whilst they visited China they practiced using chop sticks.
Carefree Cruises visited Greece where they tried some Greek food and made olive leaf crowns, which were worn when people won the Ancient Olympics. Afterwards they went to Brazil and made masks that are wore in the gigantic festivals over there. Next they went to China where they made Chinese lanterns. They completed the very popular chopstick challenge too. Finally they visited Germany where they tried German food and they then made traditional German hats. They found out that on the traditional hats they always have leaves on them.
The children had a great morning and came back to school with lots of facts that they had learnt about from the different countries they had visited!
