Congratulations to the High Fivers who played in the OPEN
Tournament today. It was beautiful afternoon (well it rained a little
bit !) and Ladygrove started their campaign to retain their title well with a
4-0 win against St Johns. The next game ended in a 0-0 draw with Manor school in
a well fought, albeit quite physical match. The third game was against Cholsey
and was won 3-1 by Ladygrove. The final group game against Willowcroft ended in
an 8-0 Ladygrove victory meaning that they finished top of the league but it
also meant that they were to meet Manor again in the final!
Everyone was very nervous but Ladygrove started strong and
were 3-0 up at half time but Manor made a great comeback in the second half and
brought the game back to a draw at full time. Extra time resulted in the game
still being drawn so nervously we played ‘Golden Goal’ – first team to score
wins ! Ladygrove gave it their best effort and battled hard against the strong
(and quite tall!) Manor side and their effort was rewarded in them scoring the
golden goal ! There was some amazing and determined play by the whole team who
managed to keep their nerve, but it was nail biting times for those of us
watching!
Well done to Callum, Laura, James, Sam, Katie, Kate and Bethany who were great representatives for the school both in their behaviour and sporting abilities. Congratulations team !
