This afternoon Year 6 had an opportunity to see how all they have learned about Evolution and Inheritance is used in the real world, by speaking to Amy Parachnowitsch, a Professor in Sweden.
Amy studies the ways in which plants have evolved to be more appealing to pollinators (particularly looking at how they use scent) and has been studying this for the last 15 years! Year 6 had the opportunity to ask lots of questions about the area of Science she studies, how her research can be applied and even how she became a Scientist in the first place.
Olivia S liked that Amy told us "you don't have to be a genius to be a Scientist"; Lucas said "I liked how it fascinating and interesting; we got a live chat about anything we wanted with Science"; Paige said "I liked hearing about it from the perspective of someone who actually does it!"
It was great to be able to use technology to have a visitor from so far away in the classroom and we're looking forward to having lots more 'Skype a Scientist' sessions in the future!
