Hillcrest - Thursday Update!
The final full day! As predicted, the lie in managed to stay relatively leisurely this morning, with only the thunderings of bathroom trips en mass at 7.10am. After the best breakfast so far of scrambled eggs, bacon, beans and toast, everyone departed to their activities.
Mrs Lee began the day with a spot of raft building - apparently the girls were today suffering from a slight lack of sleep [Memorable quotes - Gemma O'D: Someone's snoring really loudly and we can't sleep! Lydia I: Someone's going to be sick and I hate sick!] and so the boys managed to pull together in the team activities. Mrs Hastings has been taking on challenges head on all day: abseiling, done; zip wire, screamingly completed; trapeze, tears-in-her-eyes-fear and a flourish finish.
Mrs McSweeney has again been chief in control of operations whilst bringing it to anyone who would listen's attention that 'Mr Sutton has stayed remarkably dry so far this week'. Consequently, Mr Sutton did not spend much of today being dry. Or clean. Or not in the shower trying to get clean. Having said that, the mud challenge was a lot of fun and for the majority of it, Elenor, Erin, Ben L and Bethany only covered me in mud from the neck down, as that was as high as they could reach. But then I crouched down to collect some mud and Bethan delivered a liberal portion of sandy, thick, staining, gloopy mud into my left ear. It's still there.
Mrs Crewe has been darting around between activities, mainly trying to avoid the mud challenge and trying to find opportunities to capture film footage of You've Been Framed styled moments in order to get a swift £250...I mean, raise some valuable funds for the PTA. So far, Mrs Lee and her shakey knees on the trapeze are most likely to win the cash.
Needless to say, the children are all having a great time...Jack Robinson comandeered his raft expertly around the island in the lake and managed to stay perfectly dry throughout the whole experience! Samuel Pike managed some self-help adopted by the rest of his team during the abseil wall. This consisted of singing 'Spider Pig' whilst enjoying minutes of abseil skill, punctuated by small screams when his rope twisted and span him towards the open air rather than the wall which he was supposed to be decending. Other noatble mentions today go to Joel, who spent a record amount of time perched at the top of the abseil tower, assuring us that he 'couldn't go down'...something wrong with the rope, i think.
As I type, the quiet tones of a disco being sound-checked are fading through. The children have been discussing outfits all day, as well as who's asking who. It's all fun and games. They've just had their final 'spend' at the tuck shop too, so the sugar will begin to hit soon. I'm sure the children wil be fine but undoubtably in about 10 minutes, Mrs Lee will be bouncing off the walls to Robbie Williams, bag of sherbert dib-dabs in her hand. Could be a long night.
Anyhow, I'm going to go and get my party outfit ready, I'll borrow some gel from any of the boys, some of whom seem to spend more on hair wax than I spent on my car's last M.O.T. Anyhow, the children have had a fab week. Things they've never done, for some. New nights away from home, for others. A wonderful time, for all. [almost a bit Jerry Springer as sign offs go, that.]
Mr Sutton.
