Hillcrest - Wednesday Update

Another day of action over here at Ross-on-Wye. After waking up at a more leisurely 7.10am, we breakfasted and were all set to begin our activities by 9am. Well rested and batteries recharged, some of us stayed on site doing abseiling and a mud-challenge course, while others went down to the 'Drummond's Dub' Lake facility and kayaked, Motor sported and built rafts. And then fell off rafts.

It has to be said that the groups of girls are rather taking the first place positions in the team games. I witnesed a group of 8 girls whip a raft together in a matter of minutes under the watchful and supervisory eyes of Alanah and Georgia, who've obvisouly been watching Ray Mear's Survival Guides recently. Next thing we'll know is that they've been out in the fields trapping wild rabbit with only a sharp piece of string.

The children had a great time with the Cludeo activity last night. It ended up with the groups acting out the demise of a gnarly [urbandictionary.com should give you the answer] instructor at the hands of a beautiful princess. Throw in a Rasta and a pirate and you're beginning to get a picture of the sort of craziness we're having. Thomas Hanson provided a narration that Jessica Fletcher of 'Murder She Wrote' would be proud of! It's wacky races tonight...anything could happen...but I think it'll probably be something to do with some sort of race.

The children are really getting in to the activities and are coming back to the centre wiped-out and ready for a long rest...the lie ins are getting progressively longer! The staff are also having a fab time - Mrs Lee is considering a GNVQ in Abseil Instruction, Mrs McSweeney and her bump are handling logistics of everything outstandingly, Mrs Hastings Exercised her Initiative, Mrs Browning is hoping to try-out for the Olympic Kayak Slalom team for 2012 and I'm hoping to be able to work-off Mrs Davies' delectable brownie cake by next year.
