Well, Year 6 have officially hit Hillcrest. After a thankfully uneventful coach trip, we arrived at the centre in Ross-on-Wye and the children were swiftly herded into loud and rawcous sub-groups, shown to their dorms and promptly engaged in more fun than any of them had previously imagined was possible on a school night.
We all ate - a lot, designed devices to protect falling water balloons - 10% success rate - and then set about the task of falling asleep. Overall, the supervising adults are happy to report that as first nights go, this one was a very good one! Only one dormitory had to witness a grumpy Mr Sutton at 5.10am, inviting them to continue to enjoy the PEACE and QUIET of their rooms for another 2 hours and 20 minutes before they were officially required to rise.
But on to today's activities: Kayaking - Conor: A* for record number of times ending up in the water, Quadbiking - Kurt: A* for confidence, speed and a Lewis Hamilton-like approach to chicanes, Initiative Exercises - A* for Mackenzie and co: for a quiet confidence that became an overwhelming success.
As I type, we're about to feast on Mrs Davies' delectable brownie cake in celebration of Izzy's birthday. The children are playing on the field next to the centre, basketballs are flying, leads are being cheer...led[?] and everyone, is having a bit of a great time. A Cludeo mystery game to solve tonight and the wonders of the tuck-shop also await. I think we'll sleep tonight!
