High 5 at the Manor Tournament
Ladygrove vs Stephen Freeman A Team
The match we dreaded, as we had recently been defeated by them... We put Katie and Gemma in as our scorers and left defence to Joel and Holly. Dan was a star as centre – running his legs off ensuring the ball went in our direction whenever possible. Although we lost 3-2, the match was evenly matched and we played well.
Ladygrove vs Hagbourne B
Holly and Joel were paired together again – this time getting goals for us. Katie and Georgia did a good job defending and didn't let in a single goal. Holly and Joel scored one each, ably assisted by Joe as centre. Final score 2-0 to us.
Ladygrove vs Cholsey
Katie – one of our leading goal scorers this year – was once again on top form and managed to net 3 goals. Georgia also netted a goal – which meant all the team worked at a fast pace, with only 6 minutes for a game. Excellent defending from Dan and Gemma left Cholsey goalless.
Ladygrove vs Manor A
For this match we had out 2 year 5 boys on court – Dan and Joe. There seemed to be rather a lot of tall people in the Manor team, and they looked strong at the start. Goals, 2 each for Dan and Gemma, with none from the opposition meant we romped into the semi-final.
Semi-final – Stephen Freeman B vs Ladygrove
Stephen Freeman B looked convincing at the start of the match, although Joe scored 2 goals against Stephen Freeman's one. A slight panic set in at the end of the match, which we knew we'd won, and Mrs Bennie, the head teacher at Stephen Freeman knew they'd lost, but the score sheet handed in by the umpire didn't reflect. Luckily, she agreed she'd marked down our 2nd goal incorrectly after we'd changed ends. Phew!
Final – Ladygrove vs Stephen Freeman A (again!)
Ladygrove took an early lead in this nail-biting final. Stephen Freeman fought very well, and the match looked like it could go either way throughout. The fantastic combination of Joel and Katie scoring, with Holly providing good passes to them meant that we managed another goal. Dan, who played his best match to date, and Georgia played well in defence against such a skilled team. The final scoreline? A 3-2 victory to LADYGROVE.
Well done to everyone who played in this tournament. Behaviour of all team members was exemplary, and they were a pleasure to be with. Also thanks to all the parents and friends who turned out to support us. What a great day!
Mrs Manthorpe
