Manor Tournament 2011

1. High 5
Jack, Rob, Connor, Emily, Hannah, Sophie and Rosie played fantastically well through the group games beating Hagbourne 4-0 (3 for Rosie and 1 for Rob), Northbourne 3-0 (2 for Emily and one for Hannah), and Fir Tree 1-0 (Rosie). Then South Moreton found their form and beat us 2-0, despite valiant attempts at defence. After a nail-biting half an hour, we realised that we were through to the semi – against Harwell. Connor stepped up to the mark brilliantly and scored all three goals in a superb show of teamwork with Hannah. Harwell failed to score. So, we found ourselves in the final against...the only team to have beaten us today – South Moreton. The umpires warned both team they would pull everyone up for faults and set the serious mood for the match. Emily put the first ball through the hoop to rapturous applause from the spectators. South Moreton pulled one back. Jack got the next one. We had most of the play during the game – which was reflected by a further two goals each for Emily and Jack. They were fed accurate passes from Hannah, and Rosie and Rob saw to it that South Moreton didn't get too near their hoop. Final score 6-1 to Ladygrove and a trophy to go in the cabinet.
As always, thank you to all the parents for turning out to support us and take photos, and thanks to Mrs Carter for turning out despite feeling unwell.

2. Footie

It was a more difficult morning for the football team. 0-0 draws with Manor and Fir Tree was followed by a 1-0 victory against Northbourne with a great goal scored by Sam. The team was hopeful of a win against Willowcroft but were 0-1 down at half time. Leighton equalled the score and then had 2 goals disallowed including one that went in as the hooter went. We lost to Hagbourne but a victory against All Saints B (Leighton again) gave us hope that we would get though to the semi-finals. But we were narrowly missed out.
However, the team enjoyed their morning and we all agreed that 3rd place was something to be proud of.
Many thanks to the parents who supported.
