Thoughtful food on Red Nose day

A group of year 6 children visited the training kitchen of Food with Thought, trying to get some ideas for healthy snacks for their Money Matters topic. They were kept very busy making gingerbread men, oat and apricot cookies, hedgehog bread rolls and their own lunch! They were taught how to reduce the calories in brownies by adding mayonnaise and buttermilk, rather than butter. The cookies got their sweetness from the apricots, so the need for sugar was reduced. After lunch, at which most children tried something new, they packed up all the goodies they'd made and brought them back to school to put in the Red Nose Day sale. A very productive day!
Our thanks to Food with Thought, the county school meals provider, for hosting us.
