Year 6 Oxford trip

Year 6 had a great day in Oxford this week.  First  visited the Natural History and Pitt Rivers Museums to find about more about Charles Darwin and evolution - part of this term's science work.

After walking through Oxford to the Story Museum in Pembroke Street, everyone had lunch before taking part in a range of activities.  We visited the 26 Characters Exhibition with pictures of famous authors dressed up as their favourite characters in settings from books such as the Chronicles of Narnia, Wind in the Willows and Treasure Island.  In the writing workshop, we had a go at writing story openings, imagining settings and thinking about what creatures we would liken our families to!  Dressing up as book characters and trying to write a story in 50 words with settings, characters and genre suggested by spinning the story wheel were very popular activities. The whole afternoon was great fun and the children came back with some fantastic ideas for their writing.
