The High 5 team secured a well-earned victory at the Garrick
Finals yesterday rounding off the year in style and meaning that they remained
unbeaten in every game they have played ! This is such an impressive
achievement given the completion they have met along the way.
The Garrick Finals are a culmination of the league games
played over the year and the top 2 teams from each division are invited to play
a semi-final and then a final. Ladygrove were drawn against South Moreton School in the semi-final and at full time the score was even. Extra time was played and still the score was even, so we played ‘Golden Goal’ – such pressure on everyone playing but an incredible effort by the whole team resulted in Isabelle putting up the winning shot!
....and so onto the final!
We started well against All Saints, but they are a very
strong squad with some great shooters ! We were trailing by 2 goals heading
into the final quarter but with a massive show of determination from everyone
we managed to pull back to even up the score at full time. Extra time again
followed and with us scoring an early goal we then just needed to hold off All
Saints to become winners. Some extraordinary defence and great court play was
shown by the team and All Saints came back fighting but Ladygrove held onto
their lead until the final whistle.
Congratulations to the whole team for showing that never
giving up and playing right up to the end is so important.
It’s been a fantastic year for the triple champions with
their wins at Cholsey and Manor Tournaments and now the Garrick Finals. Well
done everyone who has played over the season and thank you all for being such a
pleasure to take along to competitions and for representing your school with
your great sportsmanship and excellent behaviour.
The Garrick Final team was: Callum Henderson, Isabelle
G-Bamford, Laura Millar, James Pearson, Katie Woods, Charlotte Pink & Sam
Blake.
